Get ready to re-mortgage

Here are 3 important questions regarding your current mortgage you need to answer before re-mortgaging:

  1. Will you be paying an early repayment charge?

Most mortgages have an early repayment charge during the initial special discount period (a few also have extended penalties after the deal ends), so be aware of this, and remember, you can avoid any repayments charges by re-mortgaging the working day after the early repayment charge ends.

  1. Are you liable for exit fees?

Do check your offer document as most mortgages will have an administration fee for releasing the deeds to your solicitor. It typically ranges between £50 and £200 and the lender should only charge you these kinds of fees if you were told about them when you first took out the mortgage.

  1. How much do you owe your current lender?

This is very important and you will need this information before you make any decision concerning a re-mortgage deal.
